This telling of the story is truly a treat. I have started liking Fredericka's character a lot and how she said that the priest was just a man in fancy clothing. Also love her helpfulness and though reluctant but promise to make herself scarce while Katherin visits.
Really want to know about Mr. Vale and what on earth are the child pranksters pointing at in the basement and we come to know what happened to Fredericka

Normally when you picture a haunted house, you think of a new family arriving and then eerie occurrences start to take place one at a time and become more diabolical. This novel seems to be taking a different approach more like the Adams family. Hal and Margaret have lived to accept the entities or atleast Margaret has. And with september more of the apparitions begin to arrive, with Fredericka seeming to be normal

Okay you have cane corsos, high tech security cameras and you stay awake in turns but Bella meets Kelvin upstairs - who tells her to switch places with him for a day to make her parents feel better and back together.

Wondering where world's strongest grandma is after her one day stint.

And then we have crazies like Brian who just want to experience the paranormal

This other Mommy is driving me bonkers and I haven't even seen her, but what can be more scary than leaving your own house and roaming around sleeping in a motel, in your car and then asking for shelter without letting the person who is letting you have a roof above your heads know about the calamity that is literally following you and sending presents which are unimaginable!

The other Mommy smells repugnant too

You think for a few chapters that this is not going to be scary - and the whole things seems like cliched. But then the whole thing starts to pick up speed and Old Mommy brings out her trump card for carnations - the voice.
Didn't expect that, didn't expect it to be so realistic was she mumbling the truth? Or was she trying to even add disquiet between the relationship of Mommy and Bella - to get what she desires!

I am really glad that Bela's parents or atleast her Daddo who looks to be the more sincere of the two in the relationship consulted Lois Anthony, Marsha seeing a monster and Bela admitting that to be other Mommy is good atleast now they all know something is definitely amiss.

Writing as an 8 year old would make you think that the child character won't be able to convey much and it is a silly idea. But it is clever.

Did Josie become a narcissist because of being raised by a narcissist? Is it something innate or has it to do with the environment one's raised in - also as for Booke I guess she suffered since Josie blamed her for losing Roxy, it seems.

Introspecting it isn't really wise to call someone mad, nuts or weird especially women.

The thing that might look slow is the pace of the story - but owing to how real life pans out - I think the story is completely on track - though it feels slow at times to divulge things. But are the accounts of what is true - whether it is what Josie says or what Walter divulges - become hard to discern. For one thing Josie from the start seems like she is indeed telling the truth and relaying her story truthfully.

What you see are clearly two pathways : One is Josie's and one is Alix's. Now if somebody says that people have control over their destiny - these pathways give us a glimpse of it - getting married at 22 - I think that's more god's work than our human brain thinking and pondering on a decision day in and out - also for most people much of what they can grasp is written on paper - signed by where they are born.

Reading Eve's thoughts and seeing the world through her worldview is terrifying to say the least. But what if her spidey sense, or Mo for that matter or the ancient all seeing voice are correct? What if this isn't Charlie - the tattoo not being there serves as a stark clue, or has Eve really lost her marbles?

Why didn't Charlie leave the house if she called Eve so long after? Is she trapped?

This book is hard to put down! Every small detail gets you spooked, keeps you guessing what is going on and what is going to happen next! Is Eve going paranoid and unmistakably insane. Where is Charlie?

The spookiest of all are the newspaper clippings, articles on websites,.etc - none of them make any coherent sense to the story - occurrences are in different places - sometimes Canada, sometimes Washington

What's good about this book? It's eerie, it has a character names Eve with whom one can relate to, a tomboyish girlfriend with pixie cut hair who is quite frank and doesn't beat around the bush.

The sudden hide and speak spur - no matter who explains to me is scary - esp with getting in claustrophobic spaces - with for one reason I for myself am quite claustrophobic, sleep walking understandable but where is Alison?

A strange family coming up unannounced to your house and the father saying he would like a quick tour since he used to live here and wanted to show the house to his family.

And the people pleaser, forever guilt trapped Eve letting them in. Doesn't seem to be the best of ideas - but then not even Mo was able to stop her - leave alone her spidey sense and now Jenny is lost - presumably playing hide and seek.

I really hate pretense and do understand what Marcos might have felt at seeing her sister at the farewell service and most of all with the death with a thousand cuts method of killing the head kept at their house in the cold room - understandably the whole society has gone bonkers and mostly despicable.
Humans will go to any lengths to gain profits, satisfy their fantasies, etc.
Dr. Valka was another sadistic persona

You think what will be next - is there anything left to describe in the grimest details and then voila - you are astonished that there can be more to the human barbarity. But the story isn't crude it comes off as authentic - the character of Tejo in third person is someone you can resonate with, understand why he doesn't eat the special meat and why this might be frowned upon, why when he does eat it - he relishes it

When I first started reading the book the first 1-2 chapters felt unappealing, but then from Senor Urami to most importantly el gringo things turned sharply - the whole process with the details stare back at you - more like a grimace.

Surely reading the full details with the finer points seem very gross and makes you feel disgusted because the same points more or less are applicable to animals currently

I guess I know who Bobby just might be seeing all the hints to point it out. I get what Mitch Alkins must have felt with what happened when he took out Jenny for a date - and how he is ashamed of what he did, unable to forgive himself.
Thinking of all this, have to say that Bobby was much better and mature about his ways even at that young age and tried his best to save Hannah and he did want to save Jenny too!

At first the story didn't seem to quite match my tastes. But now I really love the way the author spun the two stories together one from the past and one from the present timeline. When you think about Jenny you intertwine her case with Kelly, sometimes mixing things but at the same time getting more depth at the similarities.

It's easier to sympathize with Jenny - because of the poverty, her mother's sickness, etc

I never knew that jurors in America had such great power at deciding the outcome of cases and many even turned away from jury duty - due to loss of daily income, no interest in the case - but many were forced to be a part of it due to the judge's insistence.

And for lawyers gaming the jury would be a very important part of their day to day workings.

It all seems a silly system.

At the beginning I didn't see any buildup and felt as though I was led into a story with no surprises or twists - Rachel doesn't have a backstory, Hannah does but will remain an obscure shadowy figure like a complete unknown.

At one point I thought Hannah might even be a ghost with the things going on esp at the hotel. Things are moving forward albeit slowly. Now my crucial question is how does it tie to the present

We hear Hannah's end of the story through her letter, still flustered why didn't she show up herself and tried to convey her tragedy through only words, words which can sometimes be misconstrued and sometimes be misattributed.

If I was in Rachel's shoes I'd still be paranoid about the author being a male stalker

Starting with Hannah, she surely was involved or witness to her sister's murder - the glasses which chipped her feet bloody do tell that tale.

I understand that Hannah now becoming older maybe 25-ish, would now be more involved about the death of her sister, might even be because of some thing she might have dismissed earlier now doesn't make sense
The curious thing is Rachel being into True crime with family intact

Reading this book is hard since you try to find the purpose of the phonemena they serve.

Today I really loved the example of coffee spilling on the jacket. We can resist emotions - which is absolutely true, but as the philosopher said - the youth got angry because he wanted to overpower the waiter and assert himself.

When I normally hear philosophers I just get bored, dazed and almost on the verge of falling splayed on my bed : naming then such as Aristotle, Plato ends up snowballing the process.

I had never heard of Adler in psychology/psychiatry terms and telelogy the philosophy of understanding the purpose of a given phenomena, rather than its cause - is quite mind opening.

That I am nervous since I want to avoid something.

I covered a lot of ground today and have got a firm hold of how much I like the story. First of all the coverage of Windgap's pattern around teenage lasciviousness and sexuality, drinking and drugs - speaks to me as if I have lived a very simple life.

The story seems still at some moments - not drifting any places interesting, remaining stagnant. But then a breath of life bestowed on everyone you can think of

Sometimes I intend and tend to ask myself why I read thrillers and murder novels. But then the case is made out by the distorted characters who tend to star in them and bring a wisp of reality of how people are not so perfect.

For the book, I am a little unsure even if the white old lady caught Natalie - how was she able to coerce her into the woods without a pushback was it pure shock?

Normally when you start a story you are given a character sketch of the main character, their background story and you are let to know about their features. But here we start at the get go with the murders and the grim aspect of the teeth being extracted in each case.

I haven't yet learned much about the main character Camille - but have got to know a few of her peculiarities - which are in itself quite uncommon.
