Carissa Orlando sure knows how to take you into psychological depths and gloom and then to instantaneously drag you back for the gore.

Katherine's going for the insanity plea for her mother - and not knowing what is the truth lends a certain weight to this outcome being true to a certain degree

Katherine definitely suspects that her mother is crazy - but then Fredericka doesn't concur.

Should one be happy with Elias's never changing response - Hal did and tried to and offered an olive branch but it seems he had other ideas - maybe he needs to keep those fangs sharpened at all times.

Also I find Hal's response of fighting similar to mine - I might think of several things but in the end I do give in to the brawn sometimes - which technically I have little of 😂

Just like Katherine it is indeed infuriating to be unable to understand why Margaret didn't leave Hal, I understand she could come up with rules - but why only her, why didn't Hal come up with rules to be a better version of himself - something to ponder on.

But the thing catching my attention is that Master Vale spoke to Hal and Hal now in clenched fists mode anger would be trying something it seems.

This telling of the story is truly a treat. I have started liking Fredericka's character a lot and how she said that the priest was just a man in fancy clothing. Also love her helpfulness and though reluctant but promise to make herself scarce while Katherin visits.
Really want to know about Mr. Vale and what on earth are the child pranksters pointing at in the basement and we come to know what happened to Fredericka

Normally when you picture a haunted house, you think of a new family arriving and then eerie occurrences start to take place one at a time and become more diabolical. This novel seems to be taking a different approach more like the Adams family. Hal and Margaret have lived to accept the entities or atleast Margaret has. And with september more of the apparitions begin to arrive, with Fredericka seeming to be normal
