THR can't get out of its own way: not only are there too many existing characters, there are also too many new characterss (though in mercifully short chapters) and the past few chapters have been NON STOP exposition, just recaping what happened in previous stories and books. I just hope the promise of a Drengir assault on Kashyyyk will deliver enough for me to forget about that

So far, while I'm loving what Gray's doing with this, especially the omniscient narrator who 'pops in' to check in on different characters, a lot of the familiar THR issues are present, specifically too many characters and not enough focus on a single narrative. Hopefully, this will get better as the book goes on

This is the last chance I'm giving the High Republic, only because I love Reath, Geode, Leox and Affie, and this story is the full circle culmination of what Claudia Gray started in one of the best THR novels, Into the Dark. So far, two chatpers in, I'm cautiously optimistic. Let's see if Gray keeps it up
