the plot and characters within this book are fine aside from hiot
I just really didn’t like how it is written; The “humor” didn’t land for me-in the beginning I found it quite jarring, and it made me feel like it was making a mockery of storytelling (as if he was writing whatever he wanted with no sense of cohesion).

the humor and metaphor kept pulling me out of the story, partially bc it’s just not my sense of humor and partially bc it would make metaphors that would reference the actual world, rather than keeping it consistent with the fantasy world. It started to not make sense of what time period or referent point the narrative was told in. Also was too heavy handed/didactic w/ moral messages.
