Most celebrity memoirs are confession and brand repair. Jennette McCurdy’s I’m Glad My Mom Died is something colder and far more unsettling.
It reads like a child’s voice documenting devotion. The reader slowly realises it is a manual of control.
The book is often sold as a story of healing. I’m not convinced. It is sharper than that.
