Gosh I hope you don't despise it. But, we is all wired different, tastes wildly vary etc., and we'll worry about that later. Thrilled to see you reading my favourite novel!

Two Envelopes...., Reading today, the hijinks as Doyle is attempting to escape Romany, the tiny dudes in eggshells😆, reminded me of James P. Blaylocks' Homunculus. I see you've read him but possibly not this one. You might like it.

I see you've read him but possibl..."Yeah, I remember finding out about Homunculus, when I was reading Anubis Gates (mid or late 1980s). It was very unavailable at the time, and it did not show up in Used bookstores. So I sort of lost interest in pursuing it. By the time it got re-issued, and internet shopping ease hit, I'll be honest, my interest had faded - in part because I had read other Blaylock novels and he had not really dazzled me when I did. That said, Homunculus is probably the Blaylock book for me.
The closest books to Anubis Gates that I have read, or they at least reminded me somewhat of that reading experience, are:
The List of Seven, by Mark Frost
Cuckoo Song, by Frances Hardinge
The Map of Time, by Felix J. Palma
I guess Neverwhere and Weaveworld are in the same ballpark...but I didn't love them. And incidentally, The Anubis Gates suggested to me that I would love many other Tim Powers novels...and it just didn't quite work out that way. I just did not do well with two highly-regarded ones: Last Call, and Declare.
You're such a great wealth of information. Thanks for sharing. I'll check those titles out that you suggested
I loved all three of them...but in these early days of you tackling The Anubis Gates, I'll just be happy if you don't celebrate the new DNF shelf by adding it in the next few days. And we'll go from there.
Oh, I forgot - The Wandering Jew, by Eugene Sue, is a good choice for Anubis Gates fans, IMO. All 1365 pages or whatever. But, I had to mention it.
I just came across a book titled The Devil in the Details. Short stories by both Powers & Blaylock..... coincidence? You stuck your neck out, I will too.
Read Homunculus.

Alright. You’re reading The Anubis Gates, you put Blindsight in your TBR, and you generally like my taste. So my squid pro quo/reciprocity gene is activated. I’ll put Homunculus on order within 48 hours, and take more recs from you over time.
