I empathize with many of the negative reviews online, and don’t agree with many of the points made in this book so far. When I first started reading I was super excited. The tone in the beginning was honest and vulnerable but then it shifted to sort of whinny, and commiserating; yet it was pompous and a little arrogant as if it was a different person entirely. I am currently limping along reading this.

Are we turning this ship around? Perhaps this book has a better back half than front half we might be getting somewhere here fellas!

This chapter on boundaries has been one of the most insightful, and most applicable chapters in this book. I remember when I was in university sometimes our professors would hand out copies that they made of a chapter in a book they felt was standout so that it kept the cost of book buying down for students. This chapter feels kind of like that, it is a super great chapter.

This is what I mean when I say what the hell.. “Sometimes when I couldn't sleep, I'd soothe myself (by throwing myself right back into the stress cycle with which I was familiar) by listing all the ways that my family could die-in a fire, in a flood, during a home robbery,” What the heck is this Nicole and why do you think you need to mention this?

And so we keep on trucking through. This book has lead me to engage with some really awesome concepts and terminology, but has also left me thinking what the heck a few times. This wouldn’t be on my recommendation list to someone who doesn’t find themselves reading the self help genre often. But could be really good for the reader who can take what they like and leave the rest.
