I apparently like reading about characters being really stupid. How is this a surprise to me? Literally all my favorite books have lovable idiots as the main characters. Not idiots as in not smart. I mean idiots in terms of doing all the things that will hurt them emotionally, because they crave the chaos it brings. Why? I don't know. It's just fun to yell at them in my head as I'm reading.

Skedi? Do something I don't hate for once? What is this?

ELO YOU IDIOT NO. BACK AWAY FROM THE DEATH TRAP. Why do I feel like every five seconds I have to tell these characters to DROP IT like they're a dog? I haven't felt like this since the apothecary diaries yelling at Maomao to spit out the poison. Oh no. I'm falling in love with these idiots. Hannah Kaner I swear if you don't keep writing characters like this for the next 20 years I will spam your email /joking /maybe

I swear this book has an actual plot. As much as I'd like to pay attention to the plot, it's hard to care when the main character is more concerned with having flirty sword fights with her adopted kid's mom than killing the fire god. She literally saw this woman once and has derailed the entire book to flirt with her. She's so real for that. I too would forget the plot if there was a hot sword woman to spar with.

So there's a possibility Kissin's flirting actually worked on her adopted kid's bio mom???????? I thought the author was just messing with us. Apparently not. But the trade off is that Elo ends up with the king. After what he did to Elo? Not a smart idea buddy. But if it means Kissin gets the hot mom...I mean...fine...I guess...

Oh so Kissin saves her life and now she can stand to be around her and even values her expertise.

He tried to murder you. If you crawl into his tent I will personally reach through the book and drag you away from there. I'll throw you into the ocean if that's what it takes. He's so stupid.

Inara thinks Kissin hates her mom lol. Define "hate." Did she not understand what was happening in that sword fight? She might be too young to understand that Kissin spent the entire sword fight flirting with her mom lol.

Kissin is finally having her showdown with the hot milf she keeps flirting with. As much as I know this is the worst possible way to get acquainted with the bio mom of your adopted kid, I also don't want the fight to end. Help I am weak
