Litly finishd as plane abt to set wheels on runway
I was v focused on underwater archeology part bc of personal connects + this book has that scattered thru +it does pull the author along, but it does not spend the majty of the book on dives. This was a bit distracting at first bc of expectations, but ultimately thot this rlly thoughtful, beautifulbeautifully written +lks at both the horrors of humanity + the hope

Still a really good read. Bn having trouble picking it up lately just bc it’s a visual instd of auditory so I missed the deadline for the bookmark - argh - so close to getting all this time
Still glad I pickd this up - I had seen it before + mnt to get to it “sometime” so this pushed it forward
She does a lot of history- + self- + identity- exploration thru the horrors of the slave trade +choices of diff grps

On to Togo searching for connections to the past

I recognize this quest for connection
Children of colonial cultures searching for roots in peoples and lands from before
And the so often confusion of those peoples thinking you did not grow here, you are not us

Wow - Yolanda’s Mozambican Princess foremother’s story sounds like an amazing tale to share!

Laughing a bit reading the description of what happens to find these shipwrecks - a much abbreviated version of what was in R’s diss which detailed the methodology and the science of the sonar etc tech and the shifting sea bottom. I don’t remember details sadly, but I recognize the shape of it. What would she be doing now I wonder? Still researching off Ghana perhaps

So much in ocean and beyond. I so want to be doing this with her
But how I wish I could write an application for /anything/ on a moment’s notice
