Anno left specific instructions in Eva 2.0 for the animators to draw the power lines in as much detail as possible, then he would go in later and draw the finishing touches himself. This is what happens when you get extremely passionate about a very niche thing.

Hideaki Anno's secret passion:
Making his power lines and electrical work as close to reality as possible.
Why? His brother is an electrician.
I do remember highly detailed power lines in Eva, but I never knew why.

I had no idea that Hideaki Anno was also a photographer. Neat.

The concept artist not only drew every detail of the machinery which was to be computer animated for the second ghost in the shell movie, but he also made diagrams explaining how the technology works. All of this stuff could potentially be invented. It literally works with regular wiring. Holy S/PDIF Batman!

I cannot force myself to be excited about bland grey buildings in Ghost in the Shell, no matter how well drawn they are, no matter how many weird billboards cover their surfaces. It's just so dark and dreary.

I forgot about this.
I skimmed Patlabor because I haven't seen that one and it looked like there were spoilers. Art was pretty, though.

And now I've hit another snag. I've never seen Patlabor. Well, time to go watch another movie just so I can read and understand this book about architecture...

It's hard to get very far in this when I'm constantly getting distracted by looking up artist names and staring longingly at their art. I might have to keep pausing on reading this as I get caught up on the movies I haven't seen, or haven't seen in a long time.
