The captain is suffering from scurvy. Unable to do another year in the ice. 3 officers came up with a plan to traverse to the pole via dog sled. Scurvey overtakes the crew. It's up to Dr.Cooks homemade diet of hot water, milk cranberry sauce, raw penguin and seal to have counteracting effects. With the lack of light, crew members are subject to baking treatments where stripped naked and put in front of fires for warmth and for the sun to absorb the light. The crew on the brink of mutiny. Chilean navy needed for back up? Lots of similarities between this voyage and that of The Wager. Glad I was able to read the wager first so I could acknowledge the places I'm reading about in that of familiarity. The Belgica meets up with a coal ship but are they only getting coal?
