This is just so much easier for me to read than fiction. Stories over text don’t resonate with me. Everything about non-fiction just hits so much better and I am not sure why. Right now this is talking about sentience and the arguments that an LLM can make for its own sentience, even as of 2 years ago. Pretty fascinating stuff.

The author made a really interesting point in the latest chapter I read. I think it’s chapter 1. He described how the stage of AI that we are at right now, or were as of 2 years ago when this book was written, is akin to the time when the US was actively working on the Manhattan project. People didn’t really understand the full implications of what they were creating. Money, competition, and egos drove all effort
