Also, astrophage can only travel 8 light years to another star before dying off. Yet getting Project Hail Mary to Tau Seti will take 12 light years. Why won't all the astrophage die before getting there?

Why do we need to breed astrophage for Hail Mary project? Why not send another rocket to the Petrova Line, and GATHER the astrophage needed? That could possibly be faster than breeding (which will take 13 months), but I don't think the idea is ever mentioned.

Wait, for Grace the trip was only three years. Time dilation. But the astrophage would also experience time dilation during its trips between stars, which means the 8 light year time (space?) limit stands. And I think the Hail Mary took 13 years to get from Sol to Tau Seti. So it should have died before reaching it.

IDK, I'm not actually able to calculate this math myself, so I may be completely misunderstanding things.
