Logen heads back north to see to his people when black Dow attacks him. He hates him and hates that he killed tul. The devil didn’t know he is a devil. Logen escapes jumping out of a window and we don’t know if he drowns or survives.

Ardee brings G some level of comfort that he never thought to have deserved. West visits and looks to be on deaths door. He congratulates Glotka before getting sick and leaving. Sergeant pike stays behind and is revealed to be Rews who gltoka tortured all the way back in the begging. G, knife at his throat talks his way out of being killed yet again and offers to let pike torture sult.

Glotka realizes that JL’s wife “has no use for men” so he takes her partner and holds her prisoner until she is bearing the kings child. She does as he asks although is not to thrilled she puts on a show. There is a deep sadness in her that likely won’t ever leave

Jazel has words with Bayaz and tries to defy him. B uses his art to torture JL until he agrees to fall in line. B tells JL that G is boss

It seems like this book will not have many happy endings. Logen is pissed about Bayaz and Ferro is gone, the emotional development she made washed out by the seed. Jazel is king but in a sham of a marriage while the women he truly loved is with Glotka. Maybe G has a happish ending and he got to make out with Ardee.

Bayaz definitely got all he wanted and more. Power makes the wrong right. His own first law

Before returning to the south for the vengeance that Bayaz has allowed her

Glotka finds that Ardee is with child and is told to take care of her as the people assume its jazels bastard. He does so by marrying her. He wallows a bit in self pity but she sees it for the opportunity it is and agrees. Later when in JLs pov it’s implied that it is not his child at all

West is still wasting from the radiation sickness

In the first closed council meeting after the war gltoka and one of wests men have risen to the council. They all decree that the Turkish prisoners should be left to starve and that they will need to levie a tax on the novels who did not support the crown during the war. This was not a popular opinion.

Ferro is attacked by Murmansk, the eater who led the charge but the seed left her changed. She tore his head off

Logen meets with Farro who is to concerned with the voices to care that he is there. She can hear them talking but seemingly vary faintly and she is not sure where they are coming from. Logen is disappointed to find she is not excited to see her.

The illness people are having is caused by the seed in some way. It seems like radiation sickness, possibly a ☄️. Bayaz seems to look younger now

West is recovering in the hospital and is visited by his sister and JL. They are both schooled to see him acting as a monarch and not a dweeb. This might be sulfur as he is too practiced at caring for the sick.

When Ardee returns west gets sick and finds he has the sickness.

B told G that Sulfar was the tanner as well as the man he met with about banks. That he killed the prince

Glotka returns home glad to be on the side of the city Bayaz didn’t destroy when he finds the very man in his room. He regales himself to be the banker that has been controlling things behind the scenes. He rigged the votes for JL provided funds to defend Dogasta, and back into history. He wants Glotka to run the open and closed council as his surrogate. B says people love puppets but hate to glimpse the wires.

Logen visiting the funeral of Grim is heckled by the other Northman who blame him for entering a fight they had no business being a part of. He speaks with Bayaz about him asking Bethod to spare him all those years ago. He is upset that B never told
Him but L also never asked and explicitly told B he didn’t want to know what his plans were. Later he helps JL move debris looking for people buried beneath the rubble
