He watches as his sensie dies and finally gets into the fight. His opponent carries no weapon but instead uses thunderclaps of wind. He is strong but not very mobile. Momuro feints and dodges using ice to freeze his opponent’s feet before ending it. He flees to his sensie as his father and uncle form a giant dragon made of ice. It’s pretty gnarly. The head niches but the scales spin and cut. It wreaks havoc

Heavy contrast to WOT that would just say stuff like “Rand used threading needle but was countered by jumping rabbit”

The ground troops retreat and leave room for the stronger enemy fighters. These in contrast to there weaker counterparts yellow are all dressed in black. M still stands and watches sending weak supporting ice here and there. The enemy have a wide variety of styles. Fast, agile, slow and strong

I am never going to remembers these peoples names. They are too foreign and similar to each other for me to pick them out. Anywho….

Mamoru is stunned by the bloodshed and the skill of his elders. He watches frozen as they tear through dozens of men each. There are a lot of cool moments here involving swords and ice and wind that were super well written.

As the rangers ground troops advance up the mountain side the kiagense men hold firm though there numbers are terrible. The uncle crates a field
Of ice shards that takes out a bunch and the rest of the troop shoots ice spears at individual combatants. As the rangers get closer there wind power becomes more devastating. Mamorus sensie forms an ice wall that can divert the winds and they switch to sword forms.

The letter arrived to late. The ranganese are here. They can control the wind and quickly form a tornado that destroys the fishing village as well as others on the march up the mountain.

Here we get a SICK ass fight seen that lasts about 30 pages.

The father mediates and is able to kill the three forming the tornado in unison by spearing there hearts with a splinter of ice. Now it’s man to man

Instead of trying to convince him further she sends a need of ice up his vein and into a pressure point that disables his arm. She covers his door with ice then runs to gather her children. She plans to head to the fishing village with her sisters family but as she is gathering her kids the door to her husbands study breaks down. He pins her to the ground and is about to to become violent when they here a gong

Later the father comes home with a letter that is still sealed. Makasi is surprised as this is the first time he did not read her mail. Inside was a letter from her old roommate whose country they are at war with telling them to run now. There will soon be an attack. She reads the letter to her husband who writes it off as a manipulation. She pleads with him before realizing his sense of honnor is too strong

Mamoru has plenty of skill, speed and training but she feels she can teach him a thing or two. At first he is hesitant that he will hurt his mother but she quickly dissolutions him of that idea. She is slower than she once was but ever the tricker she gets a couple good hits in that he was not expecting and points out issues in his form. When his father returns he gives Mamoru the first positive feedback of his life

Mamoru is taken to the dojo with his father. The senior matsadu is angry that his son would dare speak out against the empire. In his angry he strike M harder than he normally would calling out the moments of inprecision as “SLOPPY”. He leaves him bruised telling him to keep practicing until he returns. Mikasi watched this whole time holding back from revealing herself and her training.

They turn on the news and Mamoru spots that they are reusing footage from another storm. He asks his parents why they would do that then forms his own conclusion. This wasn’t a storm it was an attack and the people in charge don’t want to spread fear. He asks his father about it who was PISSED he would undermine the empire like that

Mamoru, kwang, and there forge buddy are helping build the stale towers that his dad was there to make when the two older boys fathers show up. They take there own sons home as Misaki has a letter from her bother, the lord of another village. He tells her that a storm came and it was especially bad. He also encourages them to take a vacation inland which was cryptic.

She never really loved her sons and instead found herself mostly alienated until Mamoru returned home from his experience with kwang and started to ask questions. Ones that revealed there was more of her in him than she realized

We jump forward to see her relationship form
With her husband and sons. There is no love from her husband. He is ice when she always craved the warmth. He never makes eye contact and only viewed her as a vessel to make sons.

He refused to train Mamoru untill he was older but even at 3 he was powerful enough to be dangerous of untrained. She taught him some at the behest of her father-in-law

He wipes the floor with her. While she has always been faster and quicker to adapt this boy far outpaces her but does it in an earnest way pulling his punches. The master sees that she did not enjoy the fight but rather she wanted to test herself against the best to see what she had in her. She did better than most people would have despite being pummeled. He agrees to help train her personally

Weapons and tech. She had been fighting with fuel daggers up to this point but wants the extra reach of a sword. She has never attended the sword class before but jumps straight into the advanced class where she quickly outmatches the other pupils she was fighting. At the end of the class she has the opportunity to fuel anyone she wants and scores the teachers son who turns out to be a prodigy

Misaki has a bit of a crush on robin who funny enough has a Bateman sense of honnor. He want a to protect the people of the city but he wants to do so without killing. Misaki thinks this is insanely dumb as the people he is fighting will have no such reservations. She wants to train up to protect him if he won’t protect himself. One of the masters of the school, the artifabrian is secretly supplying them with….

They quickly take out a number of fully grown mercenaries including some with impressive powers.
Her friend robin aka the fire bird can… well…control fire. Ellien aka whitewing can create illusions of light.

They don’t kill. Although mikasi seems destined to break that rule as she has less control over her temper

In that town we get a lore drop about the creation of the whispering blade, other history of M’s family and learn about swords. They also bind kwang broken arm. Together they walk back into town as the sun starts to rise.

We learn misaki has a glass katana, one of only 100

Misaki is 14 at school and acting as a vigilante with her freinds. Good lord she is a badass.

M is now even more angry at himself and in general his power unsettled pulls the scab he created off kwang a leg. After a brief mediation where he can better sense by the pools of water where they are located he climbs down the mountain with kwang in his back. He does this by freezing his hands and feet to the wall sporaticly. They pass of the spirit lake which gives off bad vibes and into a town.

This does an admirable job breaking the fall but kwang still breaks an arm and takes a nasty gash to the calf. M uses some blood power to form a scab. This is not something he should be able to do but it comes from his mother. They are confused of why they landed where they did instead of continuing to fall down the mountain when they realize they are standing atop a foreign plane. This proves K was correct.

This angers M more and more and he starts moving around with less regard to kwang fear of hights and uncertainty of foot. He shifts suddenly causes kwang to fall off the room tugging m down with him. He holds onto the edge of the roof for a moment before it snaps.

Falling through the air M does not panic and begins to form a sheet of water underneath them turning it to snow right as they hit the ground.

It seems like the kaigenese are taught that their armies had been so successful they never needed help however there are memorials around the country for people who died helping defend kaigen. He doesn’t understand why they hold onto there warrior society as the rest of the country developed into a modern world with phones and holograms and jets.

M doesn’t want to believe but K is making sense.

Mamoru is watched by the head master (his uncle) as he punched kwang. They are both sent to punishment after school cleaning the roof. It is supposed to be scary, they are at the edge of a mountain and the roof is slick and steep. They can use there powers to freeze there feet to the ground however.

As they work kwang tells Mamoru more about the history lessons he has been taught and why they don’t align

He also has 3 younger brothers who all look up to their stone faced father. The man is cold and uncaring. And also the greatest warrior in generations.

He is very smart and extremely powerful for his age. It is arguable that he is near/exceeding the power of his teachers already although nowhere near as practiced or refined.

He goes to school at the top of a mountain that needs to be climbed each morning. The other students whine about this however he goes out of his way to take the harder path. He seems supernaturally quick and has incredible stamina

It is clear early on the this city is ripe with propaganda. The citizens all learn that they are the best that ever was or will be and that other countries are in pure, simpletons who will never stand a chance. They seem to be taught this in an effort to radicalize them to fight for the government. Miashi and the son’s new classmate both emphasize this point.

Momuru is the eldest son, around 12-16

Kaigen is a costal region of a japenese enspired civilation. The people who live here are trained in magical arts of warfare and specialize in using and creating ice. He have followed a mother and son from the same family, one who has formed a dynasty as great fighters. The mother named Miashi married into the family but trained at a distant school as a female warrior. This school was free of the bias of kaigen.
