Taharah- ritual washing of a dead body
Shomrim- people who stay with a body and recite psalms and prayers
Keriah- tearing of the clothes in grief
Shiva- sitting for seven days in deep mourning, talking about the deceased in positive terms

So far it is an enjoyable explanation of the foundations of modern judaism. Seems to be coming at it from one perspective, that of the Jewish author who I have read is Orthodox. But he seems to be attempting to present the full range of Judaistic interpretations.
