this book makes me wonder if things like that actually happen in the states. like people casually walking to ur door and ask to be let inside ur house just cuz they lived there in the past.

yeah, i agree about the village thing as well! it's defo normalized and i guess it's a good thing? at least where i am from, it's very much about hospitality like a random person coming and asking for some water and it will be given.

in an ideal world yeah
even canada i think has changed quite lot at least when it comes to the big cities. when i lived in toronto, i didnt really feel safe on the streets.

i didn't expect you to have lived in toronto, omg? i also live in toronto but, more in a suburban area so, im good there but, sometimes when i go to certain sketchy areas in downtown, i have some trepidation or have just seen weird shit that makes me feel unsafe 😭😭

anaya Nel wrote: "anaya wrote: "don't know about the US but it sometimes happens here specially in villages 😓"

it depends on that person. in big cities mostly no. but where i live a suburb people don't mind and sometimes we even offer tea and sweets to strangers.

yeah i lived in canada for 3 years and left in 2024.
and i know which areas u mean lol i hated going downtown - there was always something going on there. i lived in the annex which was nice and quiet, most of the time. overall i enjoyed my time there but canada is deffo not for a single person - surviving there on ur own would be tough as balls.

that's so neat! an unexpected connection for me. and i've been there a bunch of times, defo agree that it's one of the most peaceful areas. i can understand what you mean - i was born in toronto and my whole family is here so, ig this is like the only life i basically know 😭😭 but, there are a lot of things that i can see would be problematic for someone living on their own.
