Can we stop putting readers into categories? We have enough stereotyping in this world already. Like the “thought daughter” “book girlie” “authentic reader”

Can’t we all just be readers? 😭

𝔉𝔦𝔫𝔠𝔥 Exactly! It doesn’t matter if you’re slow or fast, read a certain genre or hate a certain genre, read for the aesthetic or read because you want to learn. In the end we all still love the same thing: ink on paper. Doesn’t matter what the story is about, what you dress or act like, what BookTubers you watch or whatever. We’re all just readers 🤍

𝔉𝔦𝔫𝔠𝔥 I hate the stereotyping that comes with reading. It’s just ink and tree bark, formed into something to transport us and teach us and make us feel. It’s okay if you don’t fit the “Book girlie” aesthetic or something. Lord knows I don’t 🤣

emily ✞ ⋆˚꩜。 Exactly! And same, I don’t either! Sure I like pretty covers and iced coffee (I always have even before I got social media and even knew about the book girlie aesthetic) but I don’t fit into that aesthetic

But even if you do that doesn’t make you any less of a reader! You’re reading. Who cares if you’re not into classics. Who cares if you only read romance. Who cares if you read in public. Who cares if you ONLY read classics. Who cares what aesthetics you like. And who CARES what other people are doing with their personal lives. We’re just reading and people need to stop pushing people into categories. Like can’t we just enjoy this one thing without all these labels?!

𝔉𝔦𝔫𝔠𝔥 Yes!! I’m pretty much the opposite of the “book girlie” aesthetic. I love camo, being outside, riding horses in muddy jeans, hunting, getting down and dirty and having a rowdy time. But that doesn’t make me any less of a reader. I spend about 80% of my time reading. But if you saw me out and about nobody would say i’m a reader girly. I don’t fit the “aesthetic”. But why does it matter?

Camilla (Skyelights unite) This is all too real, like just let us be, just let us all be readers, don’t separate us just because of reader stereotypes

lexi ♡ ̆̈.ᐟ.ᐟ ʚ Unfortunately I am a thought daughter, I’m not trying to spark debates, but the term “thought daughter” was originally intended and used for oldest daughters who overthink and have anxiety and have that kind of “tortured poet” vibe! It was adapted for a more bookish vibe though!

Oh I’m not shaming anyone who fits into current stereotypes, I’m just saying I don’t like that said stereotypes even exist. Like why do we need to label what kind of a person is if it’s not necessary?

But I didn’t know that! That’s interesting! I guess that makes me a thought daughter too lol 🙃

I was just watching a video on reader stereotypes and the creator mentioned the “thought daughter” reader stereotype (which she touched on briefly which included Sylvia Plath, dark academia vibes, journaling, etc. for readers)

Mereda Hart Farynyk Lol, I did not know these categories were a thing 🙈

jaycee ann ✞ (amator librorum) I personally like grouping myself into categories cause it gives me a sense of belonging, and a way to find others like me, but I hate when people use those stereotypes to be mean to someone!

mimi ౨ৎ literally read my thoughts!!

ava (matching with gems) ⋆˙⟡ @lexi wait I didn’t think thought daughter was exclusive to oldest daughters though lol because that literally describes me perfectly and I’m not an oldest daughter lmao

Noëlle ♡ (daughter of the king) I kinda like them as a general category, because I like having words to express myself as, but as far as it goes as stereotyping, thats for sure gotta go, stereotyping in any area of life honestly sucks
