The middle portion is almost over thank God. For all this man's talents, I just do not care to read about the backstory of these wretched slave patrolmen who are so minor as to be NPCs, nor distant cousins of side characters, nor mothers of side characters, nor all the cold dispassionate people he fills this book with who wander around like ghosts going in and out of life because Jones is obsessed with prolepsis.

Man. The guy can write but this middle portion is so winding, unfocused, slow, and unfortunately concerned with people who are about as interesting as a bundle of sticks. Smh.
