I can understand why this is such a popular story to recommend to people. The imagery is intense and vivid, it provides a real sense for the reader to understand the situation of the Pilgrim. I also don’t think it’s a very difficult read, the background helps but overall his thoughts and feelings are portrayed very well.

The references to poets, philosophers, leaders, etc. that Dante respects is an interesting choice. It’s important I think because it gives us more of a perspective of the values of The Pilgrim and Dante. I also think it’s important to note that quite a few of the statements can seem very prideful however it is more of a relation/explanation of something and he is often conveying modesty.

Through Canto II, the dialogue is very interesting so far. I enjoy Virgil a lot and appreciate his dialogue and presence in the book. The symbolism isn’t too intense with a good translation it can be easily understood.
