Did Men really call their wives "little girl"? in this era?? How infantilizing! Is Mrs. Pritchard really this submissive or is it all an act to exert some control over her husband?
A comment from Mr. Pritchard to the young WWII vet Ernest seems so relevant today. There's a kind of cynicism running around the country. It seems to me young people have lost faith in America.

I hope you are enjoying this, although it's Steinbeck so it's almost guaranteed. I have this on one of my bookshelves!

Oh, right, I just noticed you are reading it in a group. I've read a few of his books and liked them and own a few more I hope to get to. Everyone has their tastes, for sure. I agree with you some of the classics don't deserve the praise they get. Enjoy the rest of your reading!
