Content warning for anyone who is sleep deprived or hormonal or otherwise less emotionally steady than usual: <spoiler>a bit less than halfway through the book, a 7-months pregnant mother of four loses three of her children to fever in one night. The oldest child is Joanna's best American friend, and we know and love her two younger siblings as well. Not sure about the mother/baby yet.</spoiler>
