Adore the characters, love the writing (though it's overwritten), yet it's proving to me that I'm just NOT a romance reader, not when the romantic relationship development is the only plot 🥲 I feel like I'm being drowned in emotions (this is not a slowburn for sure) and it makes me feel...disconnected.
I'm not dropping it cause I still love Sydney and James but it will sure take me a while to finish 🙈

I desperately want at least one 5-star read this month so I'm pulling out the big guns, my hopes are SO HIGH (and of course I'm already hopelessly in love with both James and Sydney)! ❤️❤️

Alexia I'm the same, give me a romance subplot, and I'm happiest! Glad you are still enjoying it ♡♡

Beautiful books like this one make me wish hard I was a romance reader so I could adore them fully but alas 🥺 Romance subplots all the way, I'm with you! Thank you lovely, I'm enjoying it but will have to read it sporadically ❤️

Daniel I feel ya ☺️. I enjoy "romance" but it's almost always secondary ... a subplot ... for me. I need an actual "real life" plot to drive the story and hold my interest. I literally skim over most bumpin' uglies scenes ... they get redundant. So I can totally relate and very much how I felt about this beautiful but *wordy* tome.

😭 Exactly like that, Daniel. I was hoping that the characters themselves would be enough to drive the story but...I'm afraid that not even James and Sydney can fully do that for me throughout more than 500 pages of mostly just inner musings and feelings and descriptions that make it feel repetitive 🙈 I'm still invested in their love story but I have to take it slow and read different books meanwhile. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one struggling because this is obviously a well-loved book 😅❤️ My Johnlock-loving heart is a bit broken though ngl

OMG ... thank you SO much for this, Teru! 😊 I'm also SO happy to know that someone else understands how I felt about this book because 99% of everyone else seems to think it's the greatest story ever ... and I felt like such a moron that I didn't! 😅

I love it for them, and those five-star reviews were so amazing I just had to give it a try 😳 But yeah, it just shows how subjective reading is and that we all have different tastes ❤️

Ken W I wasn’t sure if I should roll my eyes, laugh out loud, or cringe when their constant deep conversations even occurred DURING sex 😭😭😂🤣😂

...oh noo, seriously?? I might have paused before a sex scene 😭 That's something bound to make me cringe as well 🙈
