Book 3: “The Mystery Knight” As our duo make leave of the Stoney Sept, they make way north to reach the Wall. On the road, Dunk and Egg hear a party approaching. They hide in a thorn bush to see if there was danger looming close. As it turns out it’s a group of lords and a well adorned hedge knight; Ser John the Fiddler, who make their way to a wedding. Dunk and Egg consider his invitation to feast and joust.

Dunk frantically looks for Egg while the joust continues. The herald of the lists announces the dragon’s egg missing and they frame Ser Glendon Ball, Dunk’s only ally in a tournament of traitors. John the Fiddler comes to comfort Dunk to win his friendship once more. Dunk realizes the Fiddler is no hedge knight.. Sharing the same eyes as Egg, it’s revealed he is Daemon Blackfyre II, the black dragon’s son.

After surviving his joust, Dunk has come to terms with his loss. Distraught, Egg is trying his best to bargain with Dunk, offering up the ring with his father’s sigil but at all the advice to keep his ransom, Ser Arlan’s words echoed loudly: “Even a hedge knight has his honor”. Now truth has come to light. Our duo’s lives are in peril from a familiar adversary. Dance with dragons, expect to get burned.

Dunk and Egg are separated during Lord Butterwell and Lady Frey’s wedding. Ser Arlan’s words echoed “never refuse a cup of wine or a horn of ale”, so Dunk drank his fill to the point of illness realizing too late that the joust were on the morrow. Not feeling well on a sweltering day for jousting, Egg advises to make for the lists the day after. Dunk’s adversary may be old but not to be underestimated.

Ser Dunk and Egg make way to share camp with a group of hedge knights. As they sit by the fire, they come to learn the identity of a young Ser to be the son of Quentyn Ball, who taught arms to the Targaryens and joined the Black Dragon in the days of the rebellion. After night has passed, our duo make way to Lord Butterwell’s wedding. Dunk eager to enter the lists in order to win the grand prize: a dragon’s egg.

A heated battle takes place in the stream between Dunk and Ser Lucas. Dunk comes out victorious but falls unconscious. Once he came to, a battered and bruised Dunk learns of the aftermath from the trial. The Osgrey made peace with Lady Webber while also joining houses. Coldmoat returns to the Lion. Dunk seals a farewell kiss from Rohanne and now our duo leave for The Wall. Thus concluding book 2 “The Sworn Sword”

Dunk, Egg and Lord Osgrey approach Lady Rohanne and her men where the old wood once stood. Osgrey accuses her of burning the wood to which she declines the accusation. She demands for Bennis but Dunk takes his place and sheds his own blood to pay the blood price. Now the Red Widow demands trial by combat against the Osgrey for the arson accusation. Dunk, in his last act of service to the Osgrey becomes his champion.

After finding out the Chequy Lions truth, Dunk decides to end his service to Ser Eustace but seeing the ragtag group of smallfolk training to fight the Coldmoat host; Dunk upholds his vows and remains to help the innocent. Lady Rohanne only asks that Ser Bennis pay the blood price but the brown knight knows no honor so retaliation is inevitable. Dunk and Egg make for one last attempt at peace.

Dunk and Egg’s service to the Chequy Lion has lead them to pay Coldmoat a visit. In Coldmoat, they seek to have an audience with the Red Widow, Lady Webber and about her damming the shared stream with Standfast. She reveals that Dunk’s lord has lied to him about his allegiance to the pretender king and proof that the stream belongs to Webber. This truth tests the hedge knight’s heart for he trusted a traitor.

Book 2: “The Sworn Sword” Our duo journeys to an old ally of Ser Dunk’s; Ser Eustace Osgrey of Standfast. The history there goes back when there were still 7 kings in the 7 kingdoms. It’s been 2 years since Ser Arlan’s passing and Dunk has matured as a knight, Egg following along in progress. A drought befell these greenlands as the spring Illness claims King Daeron II the Good. Now Aerys I sits the throne.

Concluding the events of book 1 “The Hedge Knight” after Prince Baelor’s funeral. We find that Maekar, in his guilt for having killed his brother, asks Ser Duncan for the favor of accepting Aegon as his squire. At first reluctant to accept, Dunk only agrees if he’s able to continue his adventures as a hedge knight. The Ser believes living among the common folk will help raise Aegon to be a kind ruler.
