“She won’t let you in,” Mary predicted, her round little face more doleful than usual.
“How can you be sure?”
“Are you the last man on earth?” Mary Margaret demanded, tugging on the leg of his hose.
“I don’t believe so"
The little girl pondered his reply for a moment before shrugging. “Well, even if you were, Willow still wouldn’t let you in.”
“Or stay married to you,” Ennis muttered.

Had he seized her lips as roughly as he had seized her hands, she might have been able to resist him. But his mouth closed over hers with such unspeakable tenderness, she feared she might already be dreaming. A kiss so enchanting should have broken every curse, granted every wish, given even the saddest story a happy ending.

“Willow shooted him. He’s going to heaven.”
Bannor opened one eye to find his daughter standing over him, her mane of golden curls haloed by the sun. “Would you miss me, sweeting, if I died?”

Bannor’s crooked grin was somehow more intimidating than a snarl. ’Twould have been far easier to despise him if he’d been cursed with horns and a tail instead of twinkling blue eyes and a dimple in his jaw. “What would you have me yield, my lady? My sword or my heart?"

Bannor leaned down and said in his son’s ear: “In future contests, Sir Desmond the Invincible, I’d advise you to choose your opponents with more care.” To Willow, he extended a hand toward the castle. “Be my guest."
