[SPOILER] “may I offer a purely personal opinion? … You have a young girl, far from home. If you were hunting for someone to murder, what better person could you choose?” That horrifyingly makes sense

[SPOILER] “She looked at Jamie and wanted to tell him that his father had made Richard Rush lie about Tim Christopher’s alibi. … Fiona had lied to him, … and if she had to do it over again, she would …
But she wouldn’t tell Jamie. There was no point. He was a cop; his father was a cop; his grandfather was a cop.” TELL HIM FFS

[SPOILER] “He baited me. He started when we walked in, and he twisted the screws when he was left alone with me. He defended Tim Christopher, Jamie. This was what he wanted to happen.” …
“Dad wouldn’t do that,” Jamie said. He ran a hand through his hair. “Maybe you misunderstood.” Great, so now she’s either lying or she’s stupid

[SPOILER] “You told Richard Rush to lie … You went into his shop and you made him do it somehow. You told him to say that Tim Christopher was there at nine o’clock. And he did. But he must have retracted it for some reason, because it never made it to court.” But why did he retract that in the end? What made him?

[SPOILER] “So few people understand that you have to look out for your own best interests … Sometimes I think Jamie understands that least of all.”
… “Jamie is a good man.”
“What do you know about it?” he asked softly, and suddenly she knew, in a perfect premonition, that he was about to hurt her. … “Tim Christopher was a good man, too, before his life was ruined.” He did NOT insinuate what I think he just insinuated

[SPOILER] “We stood every day in the Appelplatz … Mama was all right at first … one day, … she started to scream. … She said they were murderers—they would all go to hell. … She said there would be justice … They took her away and I never saw her again. I heard one of the women say that … they shot her in the back of the head … If she’d just stayed quiet… … And then it was just me.” Holy fucking hell

[SPOILER] “My mother distributed pamphlets during the war,” [Sonia] said. “For the Resistance. She helped smuggle the pamphlets from the printers to the places they needed to go. I helped her.” Damn. So that’s why she ended up in Ravensbrück prison

[SPOILER] “Get some rest,” Miss Hedmeyer said. She tapped Sonia on the arm of her thick uniform sweater. “You need to be tougher,” she advised. “Girls like you. There’s not a thing wrong with you. We feed you good food here.” Of course.

[SPOILER] “Fiona’s phone rang. It was her father.
“I’ve got something … About your Sonia girl … I had a professor friend of mine put me in touch with a student … She found her in a passenger manifest on a ship leaving Calais in 1947. Sonia Gallipeau, age twelve. Traveling alone. … The manifest lists her previous place of residence,” Malcolm said. … Her previous place of residence was Ravensbrück prison.” Holy— Wtf?

[SPOILER] “The fact that she left her great-aunt and -uncle’s a day early bothers me. She’d gone all that way to visit them. Why did she turn around and leave?” From what I remember, she seems to have met someone and got scared and fled, but who? Who would have wanted to hurt her? And why?
