The first few paragraphs of chapter 29 are fantastic!

That thing that I was almost ready for, I’m here for it.
This thing, I’m afraid of losing it and determined to hold on to it, and I feel completely vulnerable and totally protective at the same time.
This woman, and everything she is, everyone she has, I want it. Everything she wants, I want to give it to her. If this isn’t love, then what is?

I can’t tell which of us reaches for the other first, but it doesn’t matter. Nothing matters except that my hands are cradling her face and my lips have found hers and she tastes like gin and lime and mint and sugar and desire.

That thing happens—where you see someone you know out of context and it takes a second to get your bearings. And then it takes me another second to register the look of mild panic on her face. And then it takes me a few more seconds to comprehend that Kat knows this kid and that she’s probably the mom who cries when she sings “Here Comes the Sun” to him.
