I have reached my only criticism of this book thus far, which is that I would have wanted to hear more about the Battle of Yorktown! Of course, just as this was only one chapter in Washington's life, it makes sense that there would only be one chapter really dedicated to it.
However, I found Philbrick's book on Yorktown so I'll have to read that one soon!

I am most struck by Washington's failures. His failures almost seem to make him the type of leader that could help to usher in a new nation. I am also reminded about how much personal economics can shape future politics. Washington's dissatisfaction with the commissions and treatment of Colonial soldiers serving in the Royal military was one of the founding reasons he became disillusioned with Great Britain.
