I saw something on that. They weren't maintaining updates or servers for "old" Kindles. How did you find out yours was one?

I looked up the editions that are being let go and I'm pretty sure mine is one of them.

I just found out today that the newer models are a "pay to not get adds" deal and omg I'm livid. Here I thought they were just trying to force people to buy new models but they're trying to force adds in our eyeballs too?!? They're even greedier than I gave them credit for. Maybe the new kindle game, where I load my kindle with a ton of my library and see how long I can last before it breaks or I run out of books and buy a new one, will turn into "I'm not getting another kindle in life"

Or maybe see if you can find an "old" one that isn't getting retired but won't have the ads. Unless they are automatically doing it to all still serviced kindles which would really suck as mine would be one.....

Did you get an email? Supposedly they emailed everyone who had an old kindle that was going to get discontinued.

Actually, I looked into it more and it looks like you can buy them without ads (costs a bit more) or buy the cheaper one with ads and there are ways to make it ad-free (either paying $$, calling amazon support which I guess they would do it free(?), or some other process found online which I didn't look into because I don't have the problem of ads.

Like how much more? Because I can't help but think of these stupid subscription services that make you pay x to use their stuff with ads and then XX to have it without ads. If it's only a little bit more expensive I MIGHT overlook it. Once I've exhausted my library

I'm not sure. I didn't see prices. But it did sound like it was a one time fee to get the ads removed.

.... Idk we'll see. I'm still massively disgusted that they're making me buy a whole new freaking device when mine still works fine. That's already several hundred dollars right off the bat.

I was saying to someone "what's next? They're going to put adds in print versions unless you get special editions?" and it dawned on me that they already do that. Those obnoxious fake "stickers".
Can't flipping just stick to a few pages in the back like light novels. noooo
