At first, I merely thought this book was about a girl fro Ireland moving to America and trying to adjust to her new environment. But this page made me realize the book was a lot more than that. Then colored people were allowed into the store that Eilis worked in, there was a lot of talk. The tension rose inside the store and people shared disapproving glances. The book is also a description of racism during that time

This scene made me see how much Eilis was missing her father. When Eilis mistook a man for her father, seeing her brief excitement and longing was heartbreaking. Especially for Eilis, because she is in a foreign country and feeling homesick, it must be even more harder for her. She is still at an age where she needs the full support off both her parents instead of working in a whole different country.

I thought that the tension between the inhabitants were interesting. Because at first glance, I thought the inhabitants were just frivolous girls who always wanted to talk about cloths and sales. But when Ms. Kehoe offered Eilis the big basement room and Eilis found out that the former inhabitant had been the victim of a stalker, I realized that Ms.Kehoe might not be good a character as I had thought.

I thought this page was really connects to my previous good read. Although it does not seem that important at the first glance, I believe how Eilis felt was important to understand her character. When Georgina put make up on Eilis, she said that she felt more mature and gave her confidence. This shows that she is usually so unconfident and shies away from people

This page really made me understand Eilis's personality. When Eilis's neighbors locked the bathroom from their side so that they could have the bathroom all for theirselves, I was astounded at their selfishness. I was also frustrated at Eilis's inability to stand up for herself. I understood how it was not in Eilis's nature to fight but rather stand back and struggle by herself.

This page really made me feel how Eilis must be feeling. When the inhabitants of Eilis's neighbors locked the bathroom door from the other side so that they could have it all for theirselves, I was astounded at their selfishness. I also felt frustrated that Eilis could not stand up for herself. It made me further understand Eilis's shy personality and made me wonder about her future.

This page really made me realize the families situation really well. It seems that all the kids have been going to England for work, and only Eilis,Rose, and their mother was left. Also, the realization that if Eilis leaves, Rose would be forced to stay in the house and take care of their mother made me think how hard it must be for Rose. I realized what kind of sacrifice that she was making.
