Within 30 seconds of settling into Shipe Pool with my e-reader, a kid told his dad he wanted to show him "how wet [he] can kick" and proceeded to splash the ever-loving fuck out of me. Then, a young girl begged her mom to play Imagine Dragons off her phone, which the mom happily obliged. The universe absolutely does not want a white boy to read Infinite Jest at the pool, but I refuse to relent!
