I’m struggling with the author’s tone. I had little issue with it in her book The Gospel Comes With A Housekey, and I’m looking forward to reading Five Lies. But her reading of this audiobook is overly dramatic, and I can’t tell which are her current thoughts and which are thoughts she had at the time being narrated. It all seems tarred with the same self-righteous, judgmental brush. Ironic.

Shelby Arnette I remember this a little bit from even Five Lies too. I think, most charitably, she is a very assertive person. Though sometimes this can come across as rude especially when it concerns issues that are a matter or conscience (like only Psalm singing in church, etc).

tania I am also an assertive person, so that’s probably why it’s starting to chafe 😅 we’ll see how her voice comes across the page to me in Five Lies, instead of her own narration!

Shelby Arnette Yes same here! I liked Five Lies but that tone was there on some things

tania Thanks for the heads-up!! I’ll be sure to update once I get to that one :)
