Why is Stevie genuinely the dumbest person ever

Okay so visiting the tunnel where Dottie was killed has been Stevie's dream as this detective who's been obsessed with the case...but when she gets there, she doesn't really explore or like touch anything and instead she closes her eyes and breathes in to "go back" to the murder like do not piss me off

Re-reading this. I've forgotten everything since I read it back in hs. Seems fun so far.
