I’m noticing a few tropes. One of which that is becoming glaringly apparent is that there is such a shattering of trust among the community. Whether it’s the main character (wait what’s her name?) and other handmaids shaming Janine for being gang-raped or seeing people taking off the street (to the main character’s relief), the bonds shared between people inherently is lost. Okay so I’m understanding parts, there’s a lot of PTSD happening here. Well more like TSD. I think I understand the hierarchy of Martha’s, Handmaids, etc.

I still feel confused a bit, I think it will get more clear as it goes on. The style of this book makes it difficult to know when something is being said by a character or thought by a character. Sometimes dialogue has quotes, mostly it doesn’t.
