I have a lot of thoughts about this book. Especially, the cruelness of slavery and its effects through multiple generations which is still ongoing TODAY. I am curious to know Marah's story. I also have a sneaking suspicion that people CANT leave, at least not the women. I want to know what is Clotilde's motivation for recruiting women and lying to them. Is it so that the burden is not solely on her?

If people know what is going on, why won't they just confirm it???

So far I am loving Marah's story line. I find it so crazy that the neighbors are treating Thea as if she is crazy, even though they know what goes on and no one has taken the time to just explain it to her. Crazy how Mildred's personality has flipped, or maybe it was hinted at that she was never nice to begin with.
Also, as a side note. I love when black people's skin color is compared to wood.
