Everard, I love you, and I believe you love her and want to protect her, but she was right to boot you out

Solentine spun me the same way Arvel had, giving me a glimpse of the northern side of the room. Black smoke coiled around Everard. It was barely visible, but it was there, snaking around his chest and arms. His eyes were a bright piercing green.
“He’s smoking,” I ground out.
“I’ve noticed. No man wants Arvel as a rival.”
“They’re not rivals.”
“Does he know that?”

Why is it hot when in fiction he promises destruction if something happens to her? Doesn't matter, it is.

We had rescued him. We were his new family. He wasn’t just stealing.
He was collecting pieces of us.
I was looking at the chest of Kaiden’s fears. If we disappeared from his life, at least he would have something.
He knew we were about to do something very dangerous. Excluding him wouldn’t have worked—he would’ve just eavesdropped. But he was only twelve years old.
