Yeah I hear you. It's hard not to doubt. I learned this after I got it, but it written by the same guy that was a writer on the TV show The OA. Which I never watched, but have trusted friends that said it's awesome. It's really interesting so far, if a little ....dry

Judging by the blurb, the beginning is very slow and molasses, but maybe it'll pick up later? Try to enjoy the ride until the ride starts being janky

It's a.....weird book. It's super unique, which is refreshing, but unfortunately that doesn't instantaneously make it good.

Huh, how was the prose though? Did it feel like slop?

No, I didn't feel like slop. It felt choppy, like on a sea of waves. But it fit the tone of the book well. There was one 5 page chapter that was just one huge sentence. I hated it. It was done for effect of what was going on in that chapter, but it was rough to read. But I appreciate risks like that taken. Definitely not slop.

Now to just hope the publisher bubble is a thing and not charge me a whole entire restaurant meal for one dumb book ^_^
