What kind of liquid is the liquid man composed of?

He's invented a process to somehow draw energy (in the form of electricity) out of the body (trying to find alternatives to freezing for long term space travel) which somehow results in the entire body dissolving into a sentient goo puddle. So it is... man liquid? Some sort of nasty dark puddle that can reform into a human (until he can't anymore.)
