My definition of "frying" is basically when something is confusing or mind-boggling. This book is frying me alive guys

I’m almost finished with this, and I think I’m dnf it for a bit. It’s clearly an excellent story, and I’ll need to study it more because my own stories are also very theme driven. At least, I’d like them to be. It’s just boring imo. Great story, just not fun to read.

I like it, sure, but geez I see why people don’t like the Orogenes. They don’t deserve to be oppressed, but damn, they’re extremely dangerous, and I’d be scared of them too if I could destroy entire cities just because I’m angry.

This woman is a genius. So “fifth season” means “death season?” Sick. TheIdk how I feel about orogenes. Like, I get the analog here, bu tat the same time I can’t blame people for being afraid and wanting to control them. When you can start a super volcano just because you’re scared, who the hell wouldn’t be terrified? Her prose is incredible. BURN burn BURN burn is just fucking brilliant! The tone feels so moody

Wow, I can see why people say things about this book. The second person style is creative (but tiring), and Jemisin’s prose is extremely direct. I get why some describe it as “muscular.” I can see the metaphors for oppression forming, and I’m stoked. It’s just… a slow read so far, and I’m not all that excited to keep reading.
