Tristan is very forgetful. Siegfried is not very patient with Tristan. However, Siegfried is trying to give him basic responsibilities. In the end, Tristan always ends up messing it up. Like when he forgot to close the pigpen, and lost the horse.

Herriot volunteered to do the herd evaluations for the government. He thought it would be a super easy job. However, he soon found out otherwise. It seems like a very frustrating job, especially when the cows kick him.

The wealthy woman who owns Tricki Woo now has a pig. Herriot says the little animal is really cute. However, not only does she call Herriot Tricki's uncle, now she also calls him the pig's uncle, too. The other vets really like to tease him about it.

Herriot was really confused about one of the cows he was trying to treat. However, in the end he was able to figure it out. Tristen messed up another chore. This time Siegfried was not that mad though.

Currently, Herriot is at a farm in the middle of the night. One of the local farmers horse was sick. Herriot says that that was the 3rd time that night. However, it was not the same animal.

There is this dog named Tricki Woo. His owner is kind of wealthy. She pampers Tricki really bad. She always calls Herriot his uncle. Every Christmas "Tricki" sends "uncle" Herriot a lot of gifts.

The narrator is still setting the scene. He has introduced Tristan, Farnons brother. Tristan had been off at veterinary school. Tristan is a real character. Though, he can be a bit of clown. The author, James Herriot, does a really go job of showing the characters personality.

This book is more of an autobiography. Therefore, the author is also the narrator. He is retelling the time when he got one of his first job's. An assistant for Siegfried Farnon, another, more experienced, veterinarian. Herriot speaks happily about his first experiences and cases with Farnon.
