Before the twist I felt that Lulu’s experience as a housewife and mother was very much like my own, even though it’s set in the 50s. Some expectations for women persist. Lulu is “one of us.”
And then the twist…..and all of a sudden, she’s an “other.” I still sympathize with her but I felt myself pulling away from her, putting distance between my experiences and hers.
