I am shocked that the Goodreads rating for this is so low, tbh. I'm incredibly picky about dark academia/fantasy and so far this is incredible.

This is the 2nd YA book with polyam rep I've read and I must say, it's disappointing to see people reducing it to a "threesome" + "smut." The characters are 18+ and the "explicit" parts are ONE 2 page chapter at the very end of the book. It's not detailed. There are SJM books that are more explicit. Not saying you don't get to feel uncomfy but maybe question why a queer book by a BIPOC author gets so much pushback.

Marie My understanding was that a lot of it has to do with the age of the characters combined with the dubcon scenes

Emily Mullibow The main issue is that the publisher initially released it as 14+ YA, and there is an open door dubcon threesome scene towards the end. De La Cruz has almost exclusively been in YA before this, so it would be easily picked up by younger teens. The publisher now has it listed as adult, but it's probably too late to rescue the ratings.

Annabelle i have heard absolutely wild things about this book (seemingly backed up by these comments).

Korynne Oh the beginning is excellent. But just wait until chapter 41.
