So when you're in danger, you kill vamps but when a lot of people are in danger, you won't hurt a witch. Those are some effed up double standards.

Am I... supposed to be... impressed? Because the vamp saw option C? I think I understand what this scene wanted to communicate it just, IMAO, failed. And went against things that already happened, in a way? It was fine until Jane went all "wauuuu, vamp smart, so scary smart, so old" and other characters joined her. It felt weird and misplaced in this situation. So unlike Jane too!

Well, actually, angry witch, Jane had to take care of your harassment problem, your child is too powerful problem, your sister is consorting with demons problem, your magic is going dark problem... forgive her for thinking you need help. Sheesh. We know you're powerful but it's useless if you can't use it when needed, take action when it matters. Jane has issues but she also has a point.

Whoa. The parallels are there but... let's just say I have very different feelings about it. Kate at book 10? Kate when she just had the same "I am settled in a new life" moment? Instant emoting. Here? I am like: are you? are you really? This the best you can do? Something about this series, some parts, are just no meshing well with my tastes.

I think Edmund might be laying the groundwork for true... empathy? Connection? Respect for vampires as real beings with feelings and rights? It's easy to vilianize them when they're arrogant, rich and take what they want - and, of course, feed on humans, whom they see as food. When Jane's job is to stake them. But we've been moving in a new direction for a while now. Good.
