*AND* A SU-WON FLASHBACK???????? this really has everything oh my god this is THE hak volume. i think the last one that really focused on him was 16, which was also a standout for me

maybe it was present in other volumes but i'm REALLY noticing voldo's crush on hak in this one. add him to the list!!

hak baby finally realizing that he actually CAN'T do everything alone. he's a one of a kind fighter, he's built to be a tool for war, but he's spent the last however many months honing all of that real-life experience as part of a GROUP. the solitary style that he once saw as a given is now foreign and unappealing to him. even a "tool" like him deserves partners to protect him as much he's protecting them back

i never knew that i desperately wanted to see the dragons forced to fight each other but i guess i did cause my heart is in my THROAT. the tension, the drama, the speedy pace as we flit between groups of characters on the battlefield, this is SO well done. very cinematic

see THIS is what i'm talking about!!!!! yona and hak have inspired each other and given each other strength, but the nature of that strength is not so cleanly defined. yona gives hak strength to be more honest with his feelings and hold tightly to the ones he loves, but she also gives him strength to lead troops into battle for the first time. i am LOVING how much of hak's growth is on display in this volume

I THOUGHT MY HEART WAS ALREADY CLOSE TO BURSTING BUT THEN HAK HAS TO GO AND SAY THAT????? HE DOESN'T WANT ANYONE ELSE TO BE TAKEN AWAY FROM HIM??????? he loves gija and sinha so much and he's actually verbalizing it now OUCH baby's first found family

this development of hak being more openly affectionate and expressing his gratitude for the people around him has been so beautiful!!! and i feel like with lesser, more gender stereotyped stories, that development could be very directly tied to his growing relationship with yona but that's not the case here at all. hak i love you so much keep hugging everyone pls

“if you’re not careful, a beast of lightning just might tear out your throat” remember when i was worried about jaeha potentially being a rival love interest and how creepy that would be? yeah me neither it all seems so foolish now
also this manga would never go there but i am taking great satisfaction in the image of hak ripping kuelbo’s throat out with his teeth rick grimes style

god i love how often this manga subverts the tired trope of the damsel in distress. yona fucking roundhouse kicks that bullshit into space
