the "bonds" between astrid and all her supposed enemies turned friends/lovers feel so shallow. predictable, i don't mind. but it was so badly executed it's completely unbelievable.

also, i'm so tired of romantasies with fake morally gray mmcs. you know damn well he's not morally gray. just give me a goody two shoes i'd love the change-up.

all this pomp over outfitting for the grand duel (it's been almost 400 pages btw) and these magical outfitters make a tank top and shorts? then a bodysuit? why are we giving characters video game armor.

this book genuinely has some of the worst worldbuilding details ever oh my goodness.

i don't understand astrid. she's so "good" (as described by everyone else) and compassionate... but would love to participate in torture (her words). she has anxiety and panic attacks... but not when she's sneaking around, watching graphic violence unfold, or arguing with friends. the mental health rep is looking realll performative.
