Tony is a creep, Theo knows it and is fine with it.
I thought maybe I was wrong about the sexist pattern I saw along the way, but this seals it.

Minnette is successful, but miserable because her dream is to become a housewife; Ellen is homeless and insane, Shep's wife is Chalice's co-owner but we never meet her, Mr. Ponder's secretary is grumpy (of course she's a secretary), the women from Tony's story from Vietnam were "bitching at" them, someone's mother (I forgot whose) was timid and therefore pleasant... Not one woman in this story is happy.

Reading this is torture. It may well be the worst book I've ever read, and I've read some awful books.
I really want to finish it so I could write an extensive review, but I'm not sure I can manage this for much longer... I'm actually angry at how bad it is.

Of course he is asking if a homeless person can read.

I can't for the life of me see how people like this book. It's so bad on so many levels.

So far, most of the female characters mentioned are/were feeling miserable for having a career and their biggest wish is to become a housewife;
The artist drew a portrait of his NIECE and put it up for sale instead of just giving her the portrait;
Everyone Theo meets is a saintly person;
The person who caused the traffic accident is described as being "illegal". Prejudiced much?
And now we enter the religious theme..

My dinner plate has more depth than this.
He's wondering where they found water for an old oak tree standing in the middle of the city. How about rain, Theo, ever heard of it?

The good sadness? Really? What's good and what's bad sadness? ffs... I can't.
