Generally solid premise for short story decently delivered. The cuts to each character bit by bit and the descriptions are clear and vivid. The allegory feels a little here and there. Reading it either way, in nature being nature, then the rape feels unnecessary, but as an allegory for how experiencing those traumas feels all consuming, it's iffy but it can work.

156* Another terrifyingly realistic one. The lengths that some men will go to, regardless of the other wrongdoings at hand.

Terrifyingly real analogy for domestic abuse. I'll have to think on if the plant baby's initial death is literal or metaphorical.

Hard to feel sorry for the protagonist of this one. Symbolic of a very real horror.

Third short story. Possibly my favourite so far. The threat lies in many a folklore, and the ambiguous end makes a beautiful scene. It reads like the starting scene of a movie, the end a cut to black that near mimics the eyes of the beast before the rest begins, having set the brutal tone. Gorgeous.

Second short story was very short and sweet. Familiar in its presentation enough to pull you in, yet distant enough to bring a sense of fear and horror in and of itself. Nature taking its own hold again.

First short story read, a mix of tension and relief. Something so soothing about what started so tense.
