There’s a bit on page 31 where he talks about the two meanings of “Chum,” which he’d already done on page 14, but does here as if bringing it up for the first time. I’m hard pressed to tell if that’s an editing problem on the part of the author/publisher, or just a kid forgetting what he wrote before and repeating something he finds funny. Taking it the second way, though, it made me laugh.

Up to now I've found this kid incredibly sympathetic and I still do, even as he is (finally) starting to be more of an ass. I had gone into this book expecting misogyny, and he just isn't like that. His worst trait has been denial, and that's pretty understandable, albeit obviously problematic: willful ignorance is the food that keeps this bullshit going. But also, he's ****ing eleven, for crying out loud.

I’ve had this book checked out for ages now, probably even returned it and checked it again at this point, and decided today that I was going stop messing around and actually start reading it. It’s a middle grade, epistolary, and the POV voice is very entertaining.
