This book has been a gut punch at times. I felt the same call to destiny & same dream of effortless art school photography & the electricity of music at that time. I was so confident that would be my world too. It didn’t turn out that way. I’ve reached the point in the book where Kurt had passed, 29 years later I lost my sister. “Someday you will ache like I ache” still rattles around in the back of my head.

Should I be surprised that Billy Corgan hooked up with Melissa when she was 19 and he was 25? All the while he talked about how heartbroken he was to lose Courtney Love? It seems he left out the part where he was cheating and probably still dating this mystery person when they hooked up? His creepiness, (though romanticized here), is absolutely on brand.

Should I even be surprised Billy Corgan hooked up with Melissa when she was 19 and he was 25? 😑

We’ve moved on into Melissa’s early adulthood, working as a dj at a club, and a door person at another club.
She just made what I’ve noticed as her 4th reference back to her middle and high school days, specifically about locking herself in a bathroom stall to listen to her cassettes. Though the rest of her descriptions of school were whimsical proto art school recollections. What are we missing?

We’ve gone from earnest to tedious. I have loved Melissa for more than 30 years, and can say some of this is getting out into the weeds.
The story about being friends with Rufus Wainwright in 7th grade was unexpected and sweet.
