This is kind of a darker, less whimsical variant of Heartless. Every time Keil talks about his faraway empress I think of Jest and the White Queen. Not to mention both main characters being nobles, pursued by the king, and having servant best friends. And also roses being a consistent theme.

Ok that was a really good chapter.

This is good so far except I keep catching grammar/editing mistakes and it's annoying me. Like "the white sofas under flatweave rugs" the sofas are not under the rugs hello. And at some point it was like "my father was adamant" but never said what he was adamant about.
